BIRTHPLACE OF DINO CAMPANA

WHY SEE IT?

A place rich in atmosphere, where the visionary poet of the Canti Orfici was born and spent his early years.

CURIOSITY

Campana’s birthplace is in the working-class neighborhood of Marradi, known as “the Inferno.” It’s not just any house: timeworn walls hold the restless soul of the poet. Two plaques mark the façade, one reading: “To the poet Dino Campana, a great and tormented son of Marradi.”

Today, the house is the focus of a project to become a living, poetic museum, thanks to its purchase by the Union of the Municipalities of Mugello. Inside, some original furnishings remain, and you can still sense the scent of unwritten books and whispered verses.

Visiting this house feels like stepping into a poem made of earth and fire. It’s the perfect starting point to explore the other Campanian landmarks: the Ravagli Print Shop, where Campana printed his Canti Orfici in 1913, or the Enrico Consolini Campaniani Study Center, with letters, photos, and testimonies of a life full of flashes and abysses.

To visit Dino Campana’s birthplace is to dive into the poetic and human universe of one of Italy’s greatest modern authors, and rediscover the roots of a unique, tormented voice.
