CHESTNUT MUSEUM OF MARRADI

WHY SEEK THEM OUT?

A fascinating journey into the world of chestnut culture, a symbol of Marradi and its centuries-old traditions.

CURIOSITY

Located in the historic center of Marradi, the Chestnut Study and Documentation Center is a unique museum dedicated entirely to chestnut cultivation. Housed in a historic building with a large central corridor, the museum offers an immersive experience through ten themed exhibits that explore the history, biodiversity, and uses of chestnuts in the region.

Key highlights include:

  • Pomological Exhibit: samples of the main chestnut and marron varieties in Italy.

  • Transformed Products: examples of flours, sweets, and preserves made from chestnuts—true staples of the local food tradition.

  • Vegetable Patriarchs: photos and records of ancient chestnut trees, true natural monuments of the area.

  • Wooden Sculptures and Paintings: an artistic celebration of the chestnut in different expressive forms.

  • Italian DOP and IGP Chestnut Excellence: a focus on high-quality certified chestnut products recognized at the national and European levels.

Every October, during the Chestnut Festival, the museum hosts special openings and guided tours, giving visitors the chance to dive deeper into the region’s rich chestnut culture.
